live in New Zealand - Not worth it!

• New Zealand is nice to visit, but gets boring quickly.
  
  It’s far away from everything, and as a Kiwi, I just grew bitter and un-appreciative.

  I would like to disagree that NZ is a boring place. It depends what you consider exciting of course, but for us NZ is a great place to bring up our family. We have fabulous natural resources to be enjoyed, swimming, picnicing and boating at the lakes or local rivers, skiing in winter, walking through our beautiful forests! Have you done the Rail Trail - biking on the rail trail is really fantastic, one of the best things our family has done. Trips to the city to go to a play, show or visit a museum. Lunch at the mall... So much to do. I think it just depends at what pace you want to enjoy life. Maybe when you are older you will appreciate NZ more.

  I also have to disagree, I used to think the same that NZ is boring and nothing to do or see, but now WOW im so pleased that i am a kiwi with a great country, with many exciting things to go and see and do. having now travelled to many places in the world I cant wait to return home, to that country i took for granted. where i can ski, swim, canoe, bungy, and all the things it offers, it sure bets the countries ive been where there is nothing at all but rubbish and dirt to enjoy your time in.

  Is it really boring?? I want to visit New Zealand more than any other place in the world!! To me it looks like an exotic, mysterious place... Sadly, I live in Europe and the plane ticket cost a fortune Stan, really, if you think NZ is boring you should try where I have to live (Switzerland). It's a really dull, lonely, narrow place. I think I would feel less isolated living on an island on the other side of the world!!

• N.Z is good place to enjoy your live..

  I am a Chinese and study in this country for more than 4 years. Yes,first i really felt a little lonly, no family, no friends, no Chinese TV channel, and i don't really good at English also..But after, i've got so many kiwi friends. They are honestly and friendly people. Also, i love the BBQ and Skiing i love this beatifull country!

• I know very special girl and we have one common dream...

  You are not going to the right places or meeting the right people. NZ is one of the most beautiful outside living, full of activity places you can visit in the world.. Mud baths, swimming with dolphins, water skiing, bunjee jumping to name a few!!

  I totally disagree with anyone who thinks NZ is boring. I have been living in NZ(Auckland) for the last five years and think its a beautiful country with loads of adventure opportunities. Anyone who finds a country with an amazing range of outdoor activities including bungi jumping, water sports and some of the most amazing treks boring is a really boring person himself!

• Yes, it's boring

  I've been here since Aug 08 with my Kiwi husband - we both met in london 10 years ago got married and he wanted to come back to be closer to family. Big Mistake! Firstly, we were surprised how expensive things were except for coffees and cake (and junk food really). Then the public transport is shite, I could just jump on a tube in London and be at the other end in no time. You have to own a car here. We are planning on going back at the end of the year. Auckland is geared towards families. Right now I'm so bored I've had to search for sites about how boring NZ is..and voila. I wouldn't recommend the place unless you want to come for a holiday or to have kids..apart from that I'm bored out of my brains and we've even resorted to visiting 2 different cafes in one day everyday this week..needless to say we're on edge at the moment..

  I was born in New Zealand and have lived here for 25 years now. New Zealand is one of the cleanest and greenest countries, to say the least has a great environment. Its a great country to raise kids. Apart from nature and doing stuff outdoors, New Zealand is not a please you want to make a career/living. I work in the legal profession, so I'm by no means thick, but the sacrifices I make is living in a country with a safe and clean environment , yet enduring a boring lifestyle here over another more adventorous countries....
  
  So to sum up:
  
  NZ is great for raising kids, enjoying the outdoors and nature and for retiring. Otherwise its a very boring country, and not a place to make a living career wise (in comparison with other countries anyway)

• Boring people make for boring lives

  Hey
  I am a New Zealander who has spent the last year in Turkey and have also travelled, to Australia, US, Canada, Italy, Romania, Spain, Germany, Austria and Greek Isles. I cant believe you people think NZ is a boring place, you know there is a saying boring people make for boring lives. Sure if you want packed night clubs, but corporate business district, rubbish filled conrete jungles then dont come to NZ.
  
  But if you want clean air, beautiful lakes, mountains, beaches, rivers. Skiing, snowboarding, surfing, camping, bunji jumping, great food, along with the normal cinemas, malls, restuarants etc then come to NZ> a country where people are friendly and open their homes and lives to locals and foreignors.
  
  But I would recommend the south island, i come from Dunedin a rich town full or arts and university type living, but now I hve a house in CHCH, which is 5 mins drive from the beach and 1 hour from the ski field, hmmm definitely a hard life.
  I cant wait to go back in March and bring my Turkish boyfriend to this fantastic safe, beautiful country.
  
  To all those people who find it boring F,off then, you choose to live there go back to your concrete jungles if your not happy and stop your whining!!!

  I read all the forums and am stuck. I visited NZ for 3 wks last year and fell in love with it. Now that I am considering to migrate there, my inner self says caution.... what to do??
  I love the sea, love the countryside, love my space, peace and quiet but.. I do like to go out and have a nice evening out. But what is work like? NZ sounds perfect for me, but if the work life is rubbish then I am not really interested.... or am I??????....... please comment on the working life... particularly around Wellington.

• This place is the pits - a holiday and nothing more

  With all the continuous reports of young educated Kiwis leaving permanently for Australia, UK or the US, you might want to question why. Brain Drain has been a hot topic here since the 70s, an abundant lack of opportunities for young people.
  
  But still, if you really want to come here for the countryside, beaches, the sea, quiet then this is the place for you.
  
  Other things you'll need to get used to: Broadband really sucks, it's expensive and bandwith is on a par with developing countries...you've been warned. And things move very slowly here...people are no friendlier here than they are in Australia.
  
  Develop a thick skin too - some maoris are blatantly racist towards pakeha (white people) and other non indigenous new zealanders, nothing gets done about it so lump it while you're here.
  
  I'm leaving NZ in a month so I don't feel too bad about the place right now but if I found out tomorrow that I could never leave, I think i'd have to kill myself.

  i'm an expat kiwi by the way, born here but grew up all over the place, the UK and recently the US..and we too came for a holiday and thought it would be a great place to come back to to unwind..but realised we actually craved the buzzy streets of NY and SF and London - they too have amazing green parks and lakes too you can escape to.
  
  We're heading back to SF but will be in London for a year with family.

  Ive lived here for 12 years and can't wait to go to australia or the US. Ive got great friends here and all But i really can't stand this country anymore its reping me apart..ITS BORING BORING BORING there is Stuff All to do Trust Me..If you want to Be depressed DO come to New Zealand and live like a slave Pay check After Paycheck and paying off your morgage that you can merely afford..For a young Single Male wanting to come here theres 2 woman to 1 man here You may think thats a good thing UNTIL you Find out what theyre ATTITUDES are like you try complimenting them in a club or say your gorgeus or you look beatifull those words are sexual harrasment words and an instant rejection, Yes your going to be suprised at how different they are from the ones you got back home..Don't bother unless your just coming here for the view and catch a few fish youll enjoy that..

• Boaring N.Z

  i've been here for about 15 yrs, i had no trouble with the kind people of Nz, and never felt unwelcomed, but as a young person, i wanna make the most out of my life, and NZ is not providing youth with enough options.
  I love kiwis, and their lifestyles, but that is the only thing they can do. they all seem to run on the same trend, say the same jokes, and have less ambition compared to the rest of the developed world. howeveri pity the insular kiwis for not knowing what is going on out there!!
  
  about New Zealand, most immigrants that come from unfortunate places come to nz seeking a new life, a few years later they get the NZ passport, and depart to Australia.
  there is not enough work opportunities, no reliable transport system so you always need a car, petrol is expensive and parking is even more expensive. rent or property prices are expensive, food isnt cheap.
  there is no Healthcare system like Europe or Australia,
  the problem with NZ is its association with the pacific, thus bringing alot of unnecessary uneducated immigrants from the islands, and feeding them social welfare, and ACC!!!
  there is not culture here, no identity, the roads that connect the country are literally one lane most of the way!!! traveling behind an oversized truck will drive you MAD.
  night life??? what night life? Auckland is the biggest night life, and its limited to a few scattered spots in"town" that are the same since the early 90's.
  you can not get decent food after 9pm in town , and 5 pm in the suburbs.
  the fashion, there is no sense of fashion, ug boots and rugby jerseys.
  the girls are not attractive on a general scale, and not friendly if you're the "new guy"
  the music is the same mainsteam genre everywhere you go, they can not play anything but "american music" and they're not interested in world music at all.
  the traffic is terrible in the badly planned cities, the salaries are low with high taxes.
  winter is depressing,
  WHY DOES NZ HAVE THE HIGHEST TEENAGE SUICIDE RATE IN THE WORLD?

Wages are not of importance as long as i can feed myself,have a roof over my head, and enjoy nature. • Nice to visit

  Check out www.expatexposed.com for the down sides of NZ. It is a nice place to visit - not so nice to migrate to. The main problem is that the scenery does not balance the bad parts. There is beautiful scenery in every nation on Earth - not just in NZ.

  You will not truly know just how bad life can be for you until you move to NZ. 60-80% of housing would be condemned by North American standards - meaning it is unfit for human habitation.
  
  After being here several years I can say it is the most polluted place I have lived, the healthcare is worse than 3rd world, public education (if you have kids) is 3rd world, in fact, NZ really is a 3rd world country
  
  So come on down.....if inferior and substandard is what you want out of life! You can find better scenery in the USA , but I guess you have not looked.

  Let's face it - the only thing NZ has going for it is the scenery so it's used as a draw to get over-skilled migrants to put up with excessive taxation on crap salaries, arcane working practices, expensive goods, poor environmental standards and god-awful houses whilst any Kiwi worth his salt is earning masses of cash and living it up in Oz/Middle East/Europe.   New Zealand mayb a bit boring as i grew up here and have been living here for seventeen years
  but new zealand in my mind is a great place to live there is so much to do like hiking in our forest,skiing,fishing and lots more i just cant wait to do but the only downhill with new zealand is the income and taxs. though above it all new zealand is one of the most safest places to be.

  1080 pellets all over the "100% pure" bush, poisoned vermin lying around rotting, rubbish, gangs, graffiti, drivers are barmy, homes are freezing, everything costs an arm and a leg. Housing is like Swiss cost and Albanian quality. Kiwis are nice to your face if you are spending money like water but try not having much, they won't give you the time of day. Been here over 4 years and it sucks ass.

  I know many Chinese students who apply to go to nz thinking its a highly developed country but upon arrival they are disappointed. The infrastructure back home is heaven compared to there. Nearly every one of them who has been there say its just a big farm. boring, slow paced and unfashionable but they have no choice because they paid their fees prior so they just want to get NZ PR and use it as a stepping stone to immigrate elsewhere.

  are just 'cash cows', they're the 4th largest export earner for New Zealand but get very little in return for their inflated fees. Countries such as Singapore are so much more advanced than NZ - with far better intrastructure and facilities, plus no issues with the Chinese accent, such as those suffered by UNITEC nursing student Linda Tang.
