Be prepared for long working hours if you are going to live in Hong Kong. Official hours tend to be 09:00-18:00, but in many jobs you will never leave at this time, especially if you are in a managerial role. Many offices also have Saturday as a half working day in the morning.
Government Office working hours are normally 08:30 to 17:30, bank hours are from 09:00 to 17:00. Staggered hours are not common but this depends on the company. Retail shops are open until 18:30 in business districts and until 21:00 in other commercial areas.
In many jobs you will be required to entertain visiting clients. This is can be fun for a while, but the novelty wears off quickly as this can make for many late nights and early starts. Training is highly regarded in Hong Kong, so many companies have regular staff training seminars and workshops.
The Hong Kong government sets all annual religious and national holidays. These are called statutory holidays and all employers, including employers of domestic helpers, must adhere to these dates. In total, employees are entitled to 17 days of public holidays.
Annual leave varies between companies. The legal minimum is 7 days per year; 15 days or less is common.
