There are plenty of options for short-term stays in Malta. If you are on a budget, host families, hotels or school residences may be a good alternative to hotels. Halls are also a great option for students.
Hotels: If you are planning a short stay in Malta, a hotel is probably the best choice. Cheap and clean hotels are available and you will be able to enjoy amenities such as swimming pools.
Host families: Staying with a host family is the best way to experience real Maltese culture and is a lot less expensive than renting your own accommodation. There are many host families due to the wide variety of vocational English courses that are available on the island. Host families are normally very welcoming and friendly and most are multi-lingual. However, when staying with a host family you must respect their home and values. If you are a late-nighter, you might consider getting your own accommodation.
School residences: School residences are perfect if you are on a budget. They usually offer dormitories, so if you enjoy your own space and privacy this is probably not the best option for you.
Student accommodation: If you are a student, the University of Malta offers halls of residence on its campus. Although you may have more independence living off campus, university halls are usually cheaper and safer and it is also a good way to get to know other students. The campus is directly linked to the major towns.
