Student housing in Canada - Toronto / Ottawa

• where can i find information regarding student housing in Toronto and Ottawa. I will be in Toronto from January and my girlfriend will be in Ottawa.
  
  I will be going to York University. I heard that is quite far from downtown and that living up there is kind of boring. What are the tradeoffs moneywise to live close to the campus vs. living in the city?
  
  My girlfriend will be at Carleton University. Also seeking in downtown ottawa
