‎‎guidance needed to apply as dependant of a student

I like to apply for dependant visa as spouse of a student. Following are the detail of my sponsor;

Visa Category: Overseas student
Course Type: Full Time MBA
Course Start Date: January 2009
Course Finish Date: December 2009
Visa Expiry date: 31 March 2010

I have some questions regarding amount of funds and time of Bank statement necessary for my application. My spouse's 3 months personal bank statement will be completed in 31 April 2009 so i will be applying in May 2009 and joining him in June 2009. Is it must to show that he has funds for me up to 12 months as my
stay with him will be only for 10 months? What will be the minimum amount he has to maintain for 3 months ?

Also, can i join him earlier if want to? If yes, what else i need to attach?

I know other requirements but i am confused about these issues.
