Next to the houses is the famous Zuiderkerk (South church), the first protestant church built in the Netherlands, by architect Hendrik de Keizer.
The Rembrandt museum and Music theater are around the corner, as are many many fine restaurants, shops and a supermarket. The flee market and Chinatown are within 5 minutes walking.

From Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Take the train to Amsterdam Central Station.
The train ride from the airport to Central Station (Euro 3.20 for a single journey) takes about 20 minutes. A taxi ride from Central will cost you around 8 Euro. Alternatively take the Metro to Nieuwmarkt station.
Any Metro departing from the Metro terminal at Central station will stop at Nieuwmarkt.
