visitor visa?

• hello,
  if anyone can offer some insight, it would be greatly appreciated...
  i am a south african living in london, currently on a 2-year working holiday visa, which expires at the end of april.
  i have managed to save some cash and would like to travel a bit & do some sight seeing & as i have made friends in the UK, i'd like to use it as a base.
  my question: when my current visa expires, can i leave the UK - visit my family friends in switzerland for a week or 2 - and then return to the UK as a visitor/holiday maker (i believe that one can stay in the UK for up to six months as a visitor)?
