NIS

• I have heard through the grape vine that NIS will employ people without a teaching qualification. If this is true how can they call themselves a school. Parents place trust these so called professionals to educate their children to the highest possible standard. Would I be correct in thinking that NIS is then just a baby sitting service? If so, I have no educational qualifications and would like to apply for a position as a teacher at NIS.

  Your information is 100% correct, however, since they have employed the Director of Evaluation that has been to a degree curtailed. However, to a large degree, most of the foundation stage teachers at D ring road branch DO NOT have formal teaching qualifications. The kick in the head is that those seasoned teachers who have 15 years and more years experience, are the ones being dismissed or have left in June. No teacher worth their qualifications will tolerate working for that shoddy excuse of a school. Now, will you entrust the education of your children to unqualified youngsters with absolutely no pedagogical strategies or experience??? I wouldn't!!

  How is it that NIS is allowed to operate in Qatar when they employ non-qualified "teachers" in a class. I was under the impression that you could not call yourself a teacher until a full 4 year BSc (Edu) or PGCSE or similar had been undertaken.

  why are all of the newton school so full and have waiting list if they are so bad? I don't understand how a someone can get away with having an international school with unqualified staff. This can't be real. parents must ask serious questions and have ministry investigate.

  I have asked the same questions, numerous times already. But Afaf's attitude is shut your mouth or get fired. Trust me when I say this, the Ministry is going to have their hands full with the amount of complaints about that school in the near future. However, people like Anna Williams think their positions are safe because Afaf has some or other relative that looks the other way in the Ministry. How true this is, I cannot say. But one thing, I do know. The gross human rights violations perpetrated by NIS not to mention the unethical, dishonourable behaviour by its Management especially the Principal of Westbay, reflects very badly on the overall education of Qatar. Afaf will lie outright with regard to qualifications or give the impression she did not know. Afaf likes to gush about her vision for education, but the only thing she envisions is her profit margins. The woman herself knows sod all about education and professional practices.

  You hit the nail on the head! One teacher for instance has only ever taught in Korea for a short while and then at NIS in Pre-School. She then took on a composite class of Year 5,6 and 7 when another teacher did a runner. Literacy for all Year groups(5,6,7) consisted a weekly set of general knowledge questions, synonyms and capitals of the world. For the entire 6 MONTHS!!! Numeracy was non-existent because she alledges she did not have resources. Disgusting!!! She then went on to become a deputy and eventually Principal.... Now this begs the question, What type of qualifications and experience does she have to have moved up the management ladder so fast. The answer is quite simple NONE. She can to this very day NOT teach let alone run a school.
