Confused!!

After reading all the posts above, I am so confused. I'm an American female married to an Egyptian. I, of course, was born and raised in the USA, but my husband has lived here for 7 years. We recently decided to move to the Middle East for a few years so our daughter can be raised around family. We are seriously considering Saudi Arabia, but after reading the above and hearing stories I am getting very nervous. I am a very independent and strong woman, so the thought of me having to cover up does not appeal to me and not being able to drive. I guess my questions are the following:
1. If I'm on the street (not within a compound) do I have to wear the abaya?
2. Can I go outside by myself with my daughter and go shopping?
3. Will I be able to leave the country without my husband?
